Journey to the other side of the world? Max and Sam are going on an incredible journey to Tahiti. What waits for them there is a fantastic mystery, in Connie Lee Berry’s book, “Treasure in Tahiti.” This action packed adventure book for young readers promises excited page turning!

Their island paradise is not exactly what their mother had in mind. The family is left on their own at a simple hut with no electricity or inside running water. However the majestic scenery and ocean waves make up for it. When one of the boys finds an old treasure map beneath a loose floorboard, the adventure really begins. Convincing their dad to explore a nearby deserted island doesn’t take long and soon the boys are daring the darkness of a cave. Someone else is on the island though; someone else is searching for the hundred year old treasure. Will the boys be able to follow the clues and beat their opponent to the prize? Is it even still there after so long?

Written in a fun and upbeat tone, Connie Lee Berry’s books are perfect for reluctant readers. The intrigue of the plot makes “Treasure in Tahiti” a page turner. Max and Sam are likeable characters that kids can relate to who just happen to be going on incredible journeys. Giving a bit of history, geography and even science, this book is a well rounded offering that packs in the surprises. The variety of it creates a buffet of island tastes. The Incredible Journey Book series is a fun collection to treasure.

Black World Map

One of the hottest titles in the gaming industry, the latest in the Call of Duty series by Activision, Call of Duty: Black Ops, sold over 7 million units within 24 hours of the November 2010 release. As of December, the game has already grossed over $1 billion in worldwide sales.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is a first person shooter for the Xbox 360 as well as other platforms including the Wii and Playstation 3. It is the first of the Call of Duty games to be set during the 1960s, when the Cold War was at its height. The single-player campaign allows players to play as Alex Mason, a foot soldier who is being interrogated for information. As the campaign proceeds, you play as different characters including CIA agent Jason Hudson. In a break from the first-person shooter gameplay, you can also pilot a Hind helecopter and SR-71 Blackbird at various points. Prominent actors provide the voices for the various characters, including Sam Worthington as Mason, Ed Harris as Hudson and Gary Oldman as Victor Reznov, a character who returns from the earlier CoD: World at War game. The campaign game also includes cut scenes that features archival footage from the period, as well as a soundtrack that includes classic Vietnam War-era songs including the Rolling Stones’ Sympathy for the Devil and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Fortunate Son.

For the multiplayer game, Black Ops allows teams to compete in completing various missions, such as Capture the Flag, in which your objective is to be the first to take the opposing team’s flag back to base and Domination, in which squads capture and hold three areas on a map. One of the major new features in the game is the inclusion of COD points that you earn which allow you to buy weapons and accessories as well as customization options. And there is a Theater Mode that allows you to record clips from online gameplay and upload them online, as well as a Combat Training mode that allows those new to multiplayer gaming and those who would like to try out new tactics and weapons to play online against AI opponents with a separate ranking and unlocking system. Xbox 360 players are allowed a second Gold Xbox Live account to keep track of the second player’s progression through the game.

The popular zombie cooperation mode introduced in Call of Duty: World at War returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops. As many as four players can play in four-player online and two-player split-screen mode, with maps allowing you to play as John F. Kennedy, Fidel Castro, Richard Nixon or Robert McNamara, fending off an invading zombie horde from the Pentagon, as well as a map inspired by the World at War game in which you play as Tank Dempsey, Edward Richtofen, Takeo Maskai or Nikolai Belinski. There is also an unlockable two-stick arcade-shooter Zombies game called Dead Ops Arcade.
